About the Position
Location: Department Headquarters 5809 W Airport Boulevard Greenfield, IN 46140 Position Summary The Buck Creek Township Fire Department is seeking a qualified, dedicated leader for the position of Assistant Chief of Department. This executive position is primarily responsible for administrative processes, operational oversight, and logistics management across the department. The Assistant Chief works closely with the Fire Chief and Township Trustee to ensure financial stewardship, strategic development, and high-level operational readiness, while also serving as a key operational officer on incident scenes and managing department personnel. Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties Administrative & Operational Management Financial & Budget Oversight - Manage department program budgets. - Collaborate with the Chief of Department and the Trustee’s Office to plan, implement, and track department expenditures and funds. Logistics & Facilities - Oversee and schedule routine maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs for all department vehicles, equipment, and station facilities. Human Resources Liaison - Serve as the primary point of contact for fire department personnel regarding human resources, administrative policies, and internal support. Strategic Planning - Assist the Fire Chief in developing, updating, and executing long-range operational, capital, and departmental goals. Executive Leadership - Assume full operational and administrative command of the department in the absence of the Fire Chief. Fireground & Emergency Response - Perform critical tactical leadership roles during emergency incidents. - Serve primarily as the Accountability Officer or Logistics/Finance Officer, as well as other incident command staff roles as assigned. Professional Development & Additional Duties - Attend mandatory department training exercises. - Participate in continuing education and specialized executive training relevant to the role. - Execute additional administrative or tactical responsibilities assigned by the Fire Chief. Minimum Qualifications & Certification Requirements Communication Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively in written and spoken English. Public Speaking Proven ability to represent the department publicly and present the department’s mission, vision, and strategic direction to staff, civic leaders, and public officials. Technical Skills Proficiency with computers, including: - Word processing - Spreadsheet management - Document storage - Administrative software applications Required Certifications Candidates should possess the following certifications: - Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) Certified Fire Officer II - IDHS Certified Fire Investigator I - Indiana Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - NIMS / ICS Certifications: - ICS 100 - ICS 200 - ICS 300 - ICS 400 - ICS 700 - ICS 800 Certification Note: Candidates who do not possess all required certifications at the time of appointment must successfully obtain them within 12 months of their hire date. Compensation & Benefits 2026 Pay: $89,016 2027 Pay: $92,875 Adjustments may be made based on experience. Compensation is competitive and based on current Buck Creek Township Fire Department policy.
